Strand One
This strand will employ theoretical development, literature review, and quantitative and qualitative studies to develop assessment and outcome measures and to inform the design of components of an intervention. We aim to develop a platform for patient assessment that can be used across the collaborative and provide a large representative and robust data set of similar and therefore comparable measurements. The specific aims are to:
(a) Assess the appropriateness of different assessments and guide the design of interventions, taking account of patient preference and stage of illness assessed in both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies.
(b) Develop core standardized measures and patient assessments based on literature review, consensus, statistical modelling of study data and user involvement.
(c) Further evaluate touch screen computer based assessment in clinics. Develop home-based assessment and monitoring using other methods, such as automated telephone assessment
Current Research
- Data sets are being identified and work prepared to compare measures using statistical approaches.
- Panel (including users) and consensus methods is being established to identify measures
- We are commencing literature reviews
- Funding has been sought for a longitudinal assessment study
Future Research
- Undertake work comparing measures in shared existing datasets using statistical approaches
- Multicentre longitudinal study across several collaborating centres both within COMPASS and building capacity
- Literature review and consensus of measures continues (results feed into Strands 2&3)
Study to further develop patient symptom screening systems (link with Strand 2)
